A tattoo is not permanent until it is healed. The lifetime of your new ink is determined on your aftercare regimen.
Here, we cover a step by step, day by day, aftercare routine that will ensure your ink will stay vibrant and fresh for years to come.
Your artist should have applied a plastic film or foil on the area to protect it from sunlight, bacteria, rubbing, etc. The film may be left on throughout the day, preferably for the next 24 hours. Your skin is an open wound and is prone to infections–avoid touching, swimming, and rubbing.
Day 1 & Day 2:
Remove the film gently, preferably with warm water and the cleansing soap. Baby soap is a safe alternative or you can try our vegan formula cleansing foam. Avoid soaps that contain scents, perfumes, or non-natural ingredients.
While the skin is still damp, apply the ointment by gently massaging it into the skin.
Cleanse, moisturize and apply new film two to three times a day and right before bed. The film will protect your ink from rubbing, bacteria, the natural oils from your hair/body, any germs from your partner or pets.
Day 3 to Day 10 +:
You may ditch the plastic foil, but continue to wash and moisturize the area twice a day. Your skin will start to peel as the epidermis begins to shed. DO NOT PEEL IT! This is a natural process and may last until day 5.
During your healing process, avoid direct sunlight, tanning, swimming, and any activities that will make you sweat. The sun will fade your tattoo, so it’s very important to keep it out of direct sunlight.
By cleansing and moisturizing your new ink during its healing process, you can prevent fading and infections. The longevity and vibrancy of your ink are determined based on your aftercare products and routine.
